Introducing Priyamvadaa

5/2/2016

Picture

Priyamvadaa was born on the 16th of January 1993 in a family deeply rooted in Carnatic music. She started identifying ragas and talas even when she was just 4 years old and claimed the accolades of many alike. She was a regular at many music concerts even as a child, enjoying the music in rapt attention in consonance with the other senior connoisseurs of music. She had such immense grip of tala that once Sri. V. Nagarajan, esteemed Khanjira artiste and Guru said, “You have such a wonderful gift of both raga and laya at a young age. Come to me for I’ll train you.” Priyamvadaa chose the violin as her forte and is presently one among the foremost young violinists today.

Priyamvadaa was initiated into violin by Akkarai Sri. S. Swaminathan, father of the famous Akkarai Sisters duo. She had intensive training under him for more than 5 years. She’s now presently under the esteemed tutelage of “Padmasri” “Kalaimamani” Kum. A. Kanyakumari. Priyamvadaa has gained noteworthy repertoire from both her Gurus.

Priyamvadaa has won more than 75 prizes in both violin and vocal music competitions held at various prestigious Sabhas around Chennai. She has been a regular performer at the Oothukadu Venkata Subbaiyer festival held at Oothukadu every year. She is a regular participant at the Thyagaraja Aradhana held at Thiruvaiyaru every year. She has performed several concerts along with her Guru, the noteworthy ones being the violin trio along with her Guru and another colleague Sri. M. Rajeev (a senior disciple of Kum. Kanyakumari) at Ravindra Bharati, Hyderabad in 2013. She has also performed in several television programs including Raj TV, Jaya TV, Vijay TV, DD Podhigai, TTD SVBC. Priyamvadaa is a regular feature at the Chennai December Music Festival and can be spotted accompanying many young musicians who are in the limelight. She is a B grade artiste of All India Radio.

Priyamvadaa will be performing at Hamsadhwani's upcoming concert on May 21, 2016.
